Akasa Air launched a direct flight on the Chennai-Bengaluru route.

India’s new carrier Akasa Air inaugurated its first flight on Saturday from Chennai, the fifth city in its network, allowing it to offer twice-daily flights in each direction on the Chennai-Bengaluru route.

To expand its operations from Chennai, the airline will start additional daily flights from September 15 on the Chennai-Mumbai route and add additional daily flights on the Chennai-Bengaluru route from September 26.

In addition, to improve pan-India network connectivity, the airline is also adding a new route between Chennai and Kochi which will start on 26 September. This rapid expansion of cities, routes and frequencies is in line with the airline’s vision to take a gradual but rapid approach to expanding its network in India.

Commenting on the inaugural flights and new routes, Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air, said, “We have reached another milestone today with the launch of commercial flights from Chennai, which is the fifth city in our network. Starting today. , we will offer twice daily flights in each direction on this new route.

“In the next five days, we will strengthen our network from Chennai by connecting to Mumbai, India’s financial capital, which will be operational from 15 September. On September 26, with the start of the Chennai-Kochi route, we will further enhance our connectivity from Chennai. »

Iyer added, “The increased capacity in these key cities, supported by affordable fares, will give our customers many options for planning their trips. We are excited to expand our network to fulfill our commitment to gradually add more cities in new areas. »

The airline started commercial operations with two aircraft and has since received four aircraft so far. It will continue to expand its fleet with a view to establishing a strong presence across India, with a focus on key cities and connectivity between metro and Level 2 and 3 roads.

Akasa Air’s fleet will grow to 18 aircraft by the end of March 2023, and over the next four years the company will add 54 aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 72.
