The lifting of sanctions allowed the holding of the Women’s Under-17 World Cup in India.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — FIFA has lifted the sanctions imposed on the Football Federation of India after the Supreme Court of India terminated the mandate of the Administrative Committee (CoA). The move paves the way for hosting the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India in October as planned, according to reports daily starSaturday (27/8/2022).
FIFA had suspended the Indian Football Federation on August 15 due to undue influence by third parties and the lifting of the ban came 11 days later.
“Council Office Fifa has decided to lift the suspension imposed on the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) due to undue influence by third parties,” FIFA said in a statement.
The decision was taken after FIFA received confirmation that the mandate of the Board of Trustees created to take over the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee had ended and that the AIFF administration had regained full control of the daily business of the AIFF.
“The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, scheduled to take place from 11 to 30 October 2022, will be held in India as scheduled,” a FIFA statement added.
