Tan Wee Kiong is optimistic about his medal chances despite a tough draw.
Wee Kiong and V Shem, who arrived as the fourth-seeded pair at No. 1. The World 15 are due to meet new Birmingham Commonwealth Games champion Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty of India in the third round.
If they can do so, the independent pair could face reigning Japanese champions Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi in the quarter-finals.

Wee Kiong felt that he and V Shem had a chance to secure the podium.
“Winning a medal here has always been my goal. I think everyone has a chance to win,” said Wee Kiong whose best performance came last year in Huelva, Spain, where they reached the quarter-finals before losing to second-placed He Jiting. -Tan Qiang, from China.
Meanwhile, the other national pairs that want to look good are Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (#6), Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi (#10) and Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (#12) . All three pairs also received first-round byes.
Aaron/Wooi Yik and Sze Fei/Izzuddin head into the third-round clash unless there is a disruption.
The former will likely play against world number 24 pair Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han in the second round while the latter will struggle a bit to defeat Irish pair Joshua Magee/Paul Reynolds.
Last year’s bronze medalists Yew Sin/Ee Yi will face Terry Hee/Loh Kean Hean from Singapore (#41) or Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov from France (#29).
A win could pit them against Denmark’s world number 8 duo Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the third round.
