TRIBUNE – India has come a long way since its independence on August 15, 1947. And, in the coming decades, New Delhi will assume all its international responsibilities, in partnership with Paris, argues Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador from India to France.

On August 15, India celebrates 75 years of independence – an important step in the journey of the world’s largest democracy, the heir to an ancient civilization and unique diversity. Since independence, our population has grown from 350 million to 1.35 billion. There are 22 official languages, with different scripts, and hundreds of dialects. All the world’s major religions are integrated into society and enjoy constitutional guarantees. We have established a federal structure consisting of 28 states and 8 union territories. We encourage our diversity and our unity to deepen.

India is the fifth largest economy in the world and is growing rapidly. The country is a major producer of agricultural products, the sixth largest manufacturing economy, a major producer of pharmaceuticals, nuclear power and aerospace, and a leader in digital payments and support for open digital infrastructure, creating…
