Dizzy handles Malaysia doubles, Rexy Mainaky sheds a few pounds

Ligaosport.com –

Badminton News: Rexy Mainaky has dropped a few pounds but has nothing to do with managing high hopes in BAM’s doubles department.

“Yes, I have lost weight since I joined Malaysia but it’s not because of my job. In fact, I tried to lose a few pounds because I need to get rid of all that fat,” said jolly Rexy, who was named national director of doubles coaching on Dec. 1 last year.

“Trying to lose weight and fighting to change Malaysia’s fortunes in doubles is a challenge…but I like it.”

Rexy Mainaky is not one to give up his players easily and he has now upped the ante.

He wants the doubles department to achieve their goal of two Malaysian gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.

Many speculated that it would be quite difficult for the team to achieve the double gold medal goal set by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) without top-flight singles player Lee Zii Jia, who has chose not to focus on the world championships. in Tokyo next month, but Rexy Mainaky isn’t giving up.

“Dual departments can achieve this goal. I have faith in men’s doubles and women’s doubles to win and it would be great if our mixed doubles could also bounce back,” said Rexy.

Those who went to Birmingham were Aaron/Wooi Yik, Pearly Tan/M. Thinaah and Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See and Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing while the singles players were Ng Tze Yong and Goh Jin Wei.

With India, England and Singapore having better squad depth this year, it won’t be as easy for Malaysia at the Commonwealth Games as before.

“Our players are capable but I hope they don’t put pressure on themselves. They have to stay focused in every game and not think too much,” said Rexy.

“I will keep fighting to give my best. I don’t give up easily and I expect the same from my players.”

Indeed, the seven and a half months spent with the double department had been quite a journey for Rexy.

The former world champion and Olympic champion encouraged doubles players to dare to score big goals for themselves.

“I love a challenge and will continue to challenge these players,” Rexy said.

There have been good results but there have also been disappointments since he took over.

Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani became German Open champions and Swiss Open runners-up for the first time. There are also different winners in the men’s and women’s doubles to show that there is some improvement.

And the mixed trainings and recent mixed doubles matches are also paying off soon.

The only downside is in the Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik fight to end their title wait.

They stumbled several times in the semi-finals this year and reached the final of the Asian Championships, but lost to a young Indonesian pair, Pramudya Kusumawardana / Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan.
