TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Oppo launched Reno8 and Reno8 Pro globally on Monday, July 18, 2022. The Oppo Reno8 series already has the latest variant which was released in China last May, namely Reno8 Pro+.

The Oppo Reno8 Pro is called an update of Reno8. The device is powered by the custom Dimensity 8100-Max chipset. This 5nm chip has four Cortex-A78 cores, four A55 cores and a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU. For image processing, it uses Oppo’s internal MariSilicon X chip, which has 18 TOPS of digital power and operates at 20-bit dynamic range.

Oppo does this with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 1080 x 2412 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Plus certification for high-quality video streaming from Netflix and Amazon.

Both Reno8 phones have the same camera setup, at least as far as hardware goes – the Pro model will have better processing thanks to that MariSilicon chip.

The main camera on the back is based on a 50 MP Sony IMX766. There’s an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 112-degree lens. There is also a 2 MP macro camera.

On the front, there is a selfie camera with a 32 MP IMX709 sensor. This sensor uses an RGBW matrix for better low-light performance. It has autofocus and a fairly wide FoV of 90 degrees.

IMX709 and IMX766 support DOL-HDR for 4x wider dynamic range.

There are a few other benefits to mention. The Pro model has dual speakers and an X-axis linear motor for haptic feedback. There is also an extra layer of graphite to guide the head back. The back of the Pro is glass.

The Oppo Reno8 Pro will be available in India from July 19, 2022. 8/256 and 12/256 GB RAM and memory variants are available.

The Oppo Reno8 is powered by the Dimensity 1300 with a 6nm node from the previous generation but has the same CPU board, 4x A78 and 4x A55. The GPU is the older generation Mali-G77 MC9.

The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 256GB of storage (UFS 3.1). The Indian version only has 128 GB of storage. Both phones were launched with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12.

Another difference between the vanilla and pro models is the screen. The Reno8 comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with roughly the same FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.

The camera settings on the Reno8 are the same as on the Pro model. Both phones have an ultra-clear Night Portrait mode. The battery is also the same, 4,500 mAh. The battery charges using the 80W SuperVOOC system, which is claimed to reach 50 per cent in 11 minutes. If you need fast charging while gaming, 5 minutes charge is enough for another 2 hours.

Battery Health Engine reduces battery degradation to extend cell life up to 1,600 charge/discharge cycles, providing up to 4 years of daily charge.

The Oppo Reno8 will be available later, starting July 25.
