US House of Representatives Considers Exemption of India from CAATSA Sanctions

AA/Washington

The United States House of Representatives announced on Friday that India would be exempt from sanctions imposed after it acquired the “S-400” air defense system from Russia, under the CAATSA (Counter America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) law. “Fighting the enemy of the United States through sanctions”).

The House of Representatives has indeed added a section to the National Defense Authorization Bill (NDAA), which provides India with exemption from sanctions under the CAATSA Act.

The addition to the article was approved Thursday after it was proposed by India’s deputy, Rohit Khanna, known as Ro Khanna. The California Democrat elected to the United States House of Representatives said lifting sanctions would strengthen defense cooperation between the United States and India.

The House the same day approved the bill, which covers the Pentagon’s budget for 2023.

Observers believe that Washington is pursuing a “double standard” policy of turning a blind eye to India’s purchase of the aforementioned Russian defense system and imposing CAATSA sanctions on Türkİye, its ally in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
