Badminton News: Many might say Indian women’s singles veteran Saina Nehwal is past her prime after losing in the first round of the Malaysian Open, but she’s not ready to say goodbye to her career just yet.

The 32-year-old, who lost 11-21 and 17-21 to Iris Wang of the United States, believes he still has a passion for getting things done.

Saina Nehwal wants to continue to fight to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics and also go far in the Open tournaments in which she participates.

Currently ranked 24th in the world, Saina Nehwal knows she will have to work harder than ever to achieve her dream of making the Olympics a two-player state if both are in the last 16.

Worlds No. 7 player, PV Sindhu should pull off feats easily.

This left Saina with the daunting task of advancing to the knockout stages to join her compatriots at the Olympics.

But qualifying is not the only thing Saina is aiming for as she wants to do well in many open tournaments as well.

“I’m not just looking at places for the Olympics. I won an Olympic medal. So I want to get out of it and do well again. I don’t want to play for fun. Same for other tournaments in which I participate,” explained Saina.

Saina became the first Indian player to win an Olympic bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012.

His feat was surpassed by Sindhu who won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Saina admits she needs to increase her stamina to be able to challenge top players

“I struggled last year with injuries. I feel better now but I need to increase my stamina,” concluded the 2017 Malaysia Masters champion.
