Summit: G7 imposes further punitive measures against Moscow – Politics

The statement also said the US would impose punitive tariffs on more than 570 groups of Russian products with a volume of about $2.3 billion. Biden and other G7 leaders will seek to use the proceeds from punitive tariffs on Russian goods to support Ukraine. The aim was to ensure “that Russia pays the costs of the war”.

Entry ban on 500 government officials

The White House also announced that G7 leaders would impose sanctions on those responsible for human rights violations such as war crimes. The US State Department will impose travel bans on some 500 government officials “because they threaten or violate Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence or suppress dissent in Russia”.

According to the US government, the G7 will also commit to helping Ukraine cover its short-term budget deficit. The United States will pledge $7.5 billion from the aid package approved by the US Congress. The G7 leaders pledged to provide Ukraine with financial, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support “as long as needed”. This commitment also includes the provision of modern defense equipment.

The summit of the seven important democratic industrial nations begins on Sunday afternoon and will run through Tuesday. In addition to Germany, the group of seven includes the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy and Japan.
