Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that credible media is important for the qualitative change in democracy and the socio-economic development of the country.

Speaking at an event here, Gadkari said every politician expects support from the media, but the media should support what is good for democracy and the country.

He noted that people used to depend only on print and electronic media, but now they depend on social media.

“What we need in the media is credibility and goodwill. People expect information from the media that can bring about a qualitative change in our democracy,” said the minister.

“Socioeconomic change is the ultimate goal for all of us, which is why the role of the media is so important,” he added.

“Today, everyone is interested in understanding information,” he said.

Gadkari said India is the fastest growing economy in the world and his dream is to make India ‘Atmanirbhar’ and a ‘$5 trillion economy’.

According to him, employment creation is a fundamental problem of the Indian economy.

“We need to create good infrastructure to create jobs,” said Gadkari.
