India and the United States have discussed and explored the possibility of technical exchanges on efforts to modernise transmission systems to cope with future increases in load.
The talks also covered policy consultations and possible financial support to support these modernization efforts, the Energy Ministry said in a statement.
In an effort to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Union Minister for Energy Manohar Lal, accompanied by Minister of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik and senior officials, held a productive discussion with the US delegation led by John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President on International Climate Policy, it said.
During the discussion, Lal highlighted the long-standing bilateral partnership between India and the United States and emphasized the shared commitment to a clean energy future that promotes economic growth and development.
The Union Minister further stated that the Ministry of Energy is committed to strengthening this partnership.
He also said that India and the US's engagement under the Power and Energy Efficiency pillar, led by the Ministry of Energy under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP), was important to achieve the energy transition goals.
In his remarks, Podesta said that India is a valuable partner and that both countries support each other in building resilient supply chains and an investment-oriented partnership strategy.
He also noted that India and the US can cooperate in areas such as clean energy, energy storage systems and energy efficiency.
He further said that the US can help India increase its manufacturing capacity.
The ministers discussed ways to expand India’s manufacturing capacity in critical areas.
The discussions also looked in detail at the possibilities for intergovernmental partnerships in long-term energy storage studies and further cooperation on grid-wide battery storage solutions.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of encouraging manufacturing projects and strategies to increase India's capacity to manufacture, deploy and export high-efficiency air conditioners and fans.
The meeting underlined the importance of the India-US partnership for the global energy transition and both sides expressed their determination to deepen cooperation in these crucial areas, it said.
