“Stree 2” box office: Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao film nears Rs 200 crore mark in India

Stree 2, the horror comedy starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles, has been a box office hit since its release. The film is now targeting Rs 200 million at the Indian box office.

Shraddha Kapoor's latest collected Rs 8.5 crore in its previews, Rs 51.8 crore on its opening day, Rs 31.4 crore on day 2, Rs 43.85 crore on day 3 and around Rs 55 crore on day 4. With this, the film's total Indian box office receipts stand at Rs 190.55 crore.

According to trade portal Sacnilk, Stree 2 recorded an overall occupancy rate of 72.74% in theatres on Sunday. The film was released on August 15 along with three other films: Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu's Khel Khel Mein, John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh's Vedaa, and Chiyaan Vikram's Thangalaan.

Over the long weekend, Stree 2 has outperformed its competitors. Khel Khel Mein performed disappointingly at the box office in its first four days of release. The film directed by Mudassar Aziz was only able to rake in Rp 13.95 million in its first four days in theaters.

The other two releases were not so impressive. Vedaa failed to impress at the box office as it grossed just Rs 13.25 million in its first four days. On the other hand, Chiyaan Vikram's latest Thangalaan performed well at the box office. The film grossed a total of Rs 29.35 million at the domestic box office in its first four days of release.

Directed by Amar Kaushik and written by Niren Bhatt, the film is part of Maddock's supernatural universe. Stree 2 is the fifth film in the franchise after Stree (2018), Roohi (2021), Bhediya (2022) and Munjya (2024).

After the events shown in the 2018 film, the town of Chanderi is once again haunted by a creature named Sarkata who kidnaps women. Stree 2 has an IMDb rating of 8.0/10 and an audience score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film features Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Aparshakti Khurana in important roles. It also contains cameos from Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Tamannaah Bhatia and Amar Kaushik.
