Since the country's debut at the 1900 Olympics, where it won 2 medals, India has won a total of 38 medals, including three at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
On August 1, shooter Swapnil Kusale won India's third medal in Paris with a bronze in the Men's Rifle 50M 3 Position event.
Shooter Manu Bhaker won two bronze medals in the women's 10m air pistol and the mixed 10m air pistol team event with partner Sarabjot Singh. With her two victories, Bhaker became the first Indian athlete since Independence to win two medals at the same Olympics since Norman Pritchard achieved the feat for India in the 1900 edition.
Although Pritchard's medal was initially recognised as belonging to Great Britain, the International Olympic Committee later recognised it as belonging to India. Since then, Indian athletes have gone from strength to strength with 7 medals at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, the highest achievement in the history of the Indian contingent.
