Deadpool and Wolverine release Monday

The Marvel film dropped to single digits on its first Monday, as it only managed to earn $7 crores at the Indian box office. This is a drastic drop from Sunday's earnings. $22.30 crore. Though the collections fell on Sunday, the drop from Saturday's collections was negligible as the superhero film collected $22.65 crores on Day 2, a slight jump from its opening day collection of $21 crore. Deadpool & Wolverine's total collection at the Indian box office now stands at $73.65 crore.

Broken record

Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $211.4 million in the United States and Canada this weekend, Comscore Inc. said Monday, marking the biggest domestic release of the year.

The film also had the best start for an R-rated film, selling twice as many tickets as Joker in its opening weekend. Joker became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history with over $1 billion at the box office upon its release in 2019.

Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the foul-mouthed mutant superhero from the X-Men, is the third installment in the Deadpool series. Disney acquired the film and television rights to the characters after acquiring 21st Century Fox for $71.3 billion in 2019 and considers them one of the most important intellectual properties included in the deal, along with Avatar.

The success of Deadpool and Wolverine has energized the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a collection of 34 interconnected films that together form the most successful film franchise in Hollywood history with box office grosses of more than $30 billion. After overwhelming audiences with a high volume of films, the broader superhero genre has underperformed in recent years with releases like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Marvel’s The Marvels, as well as DC’s The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods all failing to recoup their production budgets.

Deadpool & Wolverine accelerated the turnaround of Disney’s film division, which hadn’t turned a profit since April 2022. Worldwide, the film sold $444.1 million in tickets, Disney said. Previously, the biggest opening weekend of the year in the United States and Canada was Vice-Versa 2. The film has grossed $1.51 billion at the box office since its release in June.
