Suzuki unveils decades-long strategy for energy-efficient, carbon-neutral vehicles

Suzuki Motor Corporation, majority shareholder of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has announced a technology strategy for the next ten years aimed at minimizing the energy consumption of its vehicles.

The company informed the stock exchange in a filing on Thursday, saying the technology will be used from manufacturing to recycling, with the goal of achieving a carbon-neutral world while enabling people around the world to enjoy the joy of travel.

The company added that it will continue to develop the HEARTECT lightweight and safety body and work to minimize energy consumption through weight reduction technologies.

The HEARTECT platform is a lightweight platform developed by the company that is used in many Suzuki models.

The company will also develop electric vehicles that minimize energy consumption by combining components that embody “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi,” such as a small and efficient electric unit and a small and lightweight battery.

In the past, companies used a linear economic system in which the flow of raw material extraction, product production, use and disposal was unidirectional.

This led to massive energy consumption, resource depletion and environmental destruction.

However, the company now wants to achieve minimal energy consumption through a circular economy. The aim is to save resources by developing products that can be easily disassembled for recycling and reuse.

The company also stressed that the core of its strategy is the “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi” philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of creating value for customers through smaller, fewer, lighter and shorter designs.

The company added that it is also investing in lean-battery electric and hybrid vehicles. By combining optimal components tailored to different regions and operating conditions, the company aims to offer its customers the most energy-efficient electric vehicles possible.

“With the aim of providing our customers with the most energy-efficient electric vehicles based on the proportion of renewable energy and usage conditions in each country and region, Suzuki will develop electric vehicles that minimize energy consumption by combining components that embody 'Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi', such as a small and efficient electric unit and a small and lightweight battery,” the company said.

In addition, Suzuki is working on highly efficient engines, advanced driver assistance systems and designs that can be easily recycled and disassembled to promote a circular economy and reduce environmental impact.
