Mahtab, already a seven-time MP, along with a panel of presiding officers, is tasked with presiding over the Lok Sabha sessions on June 24 and 25, when the winning candidates will take oath of office as members of the 18th Lok Sabha. On Wednesday, he will preside over Parliament when a new Speaker is elected. INDIA bloc MPs in the Lok Sabha plan to meet at the Parliament building on Monday morning and proceed to Parliament together on the first day of the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. A senior politician of the opposition party mentioned that the MPs will gather near Gate No. 2 of the old Parliament building, where the Gandhi statue used to stand. The Gandhi statue, earlier a prominent spot for protests by MPs inside the Parliament complex, was recently shifted to Prerna Sthal along with 14 other statues. The politician added that some MPs will carry copies of the Indian Constitution on their way to the Parliament building. After BJP MP Bhartruhari Mehtab was elected as the interim Speaker in place of Congress leader K Suresh, the Indian bloc MPs have decided against occupying the Speaker's chair to assist in the swearing-in ceremony of the MPs, according to sources in news agency ANI. President Murmu has also appointed Suresh Kodikunnil, Thalikkottai Rajuthevar Baalu, Radha Mohan Singh, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Sudip Bandyopadhyay to assist the provisional Speaker in administering oath of office to the newly elected members.

Several opposition parties have claimed that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections expressed a public mandate against the ruling BJP, despite the fact that it was able to form a government with the support of NDA allies. MPs from the INDIA bloc in the Lok Sabha plan to meet at the Parliament House on Monday morning and proceed to Parliament together on the first day of the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
