A bipartisan delegation of American lawmakers led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul will visit India to strengthen bilateral ties and meet with exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama.
The delegation, which includes former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, will meet with the 14th Dalai Lama, Indian politicians and representatives of US companies in the country, according to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Committee on Friday. However, it is not yet known when the delegation will visit the country. Local media such as ANI News reported that the trip will begin this week.

“Tibetans are a democracy-loving people who wish to practice their religion freely. This visit should highlight the bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress for Tibet's right to have a say in shaping its own future,” the statement quoted McCaul as saying.
Diplomatic relations between the United States and China nearly froze after then-House Speaker Pelosi visited Taiwan in late 2022, despite repeated warnings from the Chinese government against contact with the self-ruled island, which Beijing claims as its own.
Joining McCaul and Pelosi are Representatives Gregory W. Meeks, Jim McGovern and Ami Bera, and Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Nicole Malliotakis.
