ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024: Disney+ Hotstar brings Dolby Vision for live sports in India

Disney+ Hotstar has announced that it will offer live sports streaming in Dolby Vision in India. Upcoming live sporting events in the country, including cricket matches, Super 8s, semi-finals and finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, will be broadcast live in Dolby Vision on the streaming platform, according to the company. This makes Disney+ Hotstar the first video streaming service in the world to offer support for streaming live cricket matches in Dolby Vision.

Disney+ Hotstar to stream ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in Dolby Vision

Disney+ Hotstar has announced that Dolby Vision streaming will be available only to premium subscribers. The platform claims that with this technology, viewers will be able to experience “vibrant colors, sharp contrast and rich details”.

“We are excited to offer Dolby Vision so our premium users can experience the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 on their screens like never before,” said Mukund Acharya, head of engineering at Disney+ Hotstar, in a prepared statement .

While the Premium plan will support streaming of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in Dolby Vision, Disney+ Hotstar claims that only 4K TVs compatible with the technology will be able to enjoy it. However, the announcement does not mention similar streaming support on smartphones that are also Dolby Vision certified.

In this regard, Airtel has announced new plans for prepaid, postpaid and Xstream Fiber broadband customers with data limit of up to 3GB per day and free Disney+ Hotstar subscription included. This plan was introduced with the aim of maximizing the viewing experience of the ongoing Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the ICC.

Cricket Match Highlights on ShareChat, Moj

Earlier this month, Disney+ Hotstar also announced its collaboration with social media platform ShareChat – a move that will see match highlights on ShareChat as well as Moj, a short video streamer also owned by ShareChat.

After this announcement, fans can relive the exciting moments through short clips of boundaries, wickets and also pitches in regional languages. Additionally, in-studio analysis clips featuring cricket commentators will also be available on both platforms.
