MotoGP News: When Kazakhstan's first MotoGP, scheduled for mid-June, was “postponed to late 2024” due to a “national emergency” caused by flooding, the obvious question was when the event would be inserted into the narrow schedule.

At first glance, a free weekend before the start of the flyaways – between Misano (September 8) and India (22) – makes sense geographically but would make six races in six weekends impossible.

A free weekend on the way back after the busy route – between Malaysia and Valencia – also meant 5 events in 5 weeks, plus a post-race test (Valencia). Not to mention the cold in Kazakhstan in November.

Assuming summer holidays are out of the question, there is only one date left in August, perhaps a weekend between Silverstone (4th) and Austria (18th). Razlan Razali, former CEO of Sepang and manager of the SRT/RNF MotoGP team, recently visited the Sokol International Circuit, saying on social media:

“The track is finished and will be ready for the first lap [MotoGP].” Asked about the lack of a clear replacement date for this season, Razali confidently replied: “It has just been postponed. Watch this place.” Motorsport.com reports that MotoGP Kazakhstan could once again replace India which will host its second MotoGP on September 20-22.

India was reportedly hesitant “because the local promoters did not respect the financial commitments stipulated in the contract”. Motorsport added that a deadline of May 20 had been set “for India to make payment”. Otherwise, the deal will be canceled, paving the way for Kazakhstan to take its place.

Asked about rumors of an India-Kazakhstan “swap”, a Dorna spokesperson told Crash.net that it was now a case of wait and see what happens with the two races.
