Jakarta: Indonesia finally had to recognize India's superiority in the final Thomas Cup 2022 which will take place on Sunday May 15, 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
India won with a crushing score of 0-3 and won the first Thomas Cup title in history.
India's three victories were brought by Lakhsya Sen who defeated Anthony Ginting with rubber game (21-8, 17-21, 16-21). The second victory was achieved thanks to the doubles of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty who also managed to beat Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya with rubber game (21-18, 21-23, 19-21). In the third match, Indonesian men's singles Jonatan Christie failed to steal a point and was defeated in straight sets by Kidambi Srikanth with a score of 15-21 and 21-23.
This result disappointed many Indonesian badminton fans as Anthony Ginting and his friends failed to retain their status as reigning Thomas Cup champions.
However, Indonesian netizens are actually moved by Indian doubles players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who are considered to be playing unsportsmanlike.
Netizens called Shetty and Rankireddy playing a 'dirty' strategy by deliberately slowing down (delay) the match disrupted Ahsan/Kevin's concentration.
