Jakarta (ANTARA) – India has requested a number of information, including regarding content and engagement with the government, from companies providing digital platforms from China, including TikTok.
Quoted by Reuters, India’s technology ministry gave TikTok and its friends 77 questions and a three-week deadline to respond.
The Indian government will follow up on these responses, but it is not yet clear what action will be taken against digital platforms.

India blocked 59 Chinese apps last June following a military conflict on India’s border with China. India says the app is dangerous to the country’s “sovereignty and integrity.” China then condemned this blockage.
The blocked apps include TikTok and Alibaba’s UC Browser, and were asked whether they were acting at the request of a foreign government to edit, promote or remove content.
One of the questions asked by India was whether the content had been censored after attacks by Pakistani militants in Kashmir’s Pulwama district last year.
The Indian government is also investigating whether the companies are under investigation in the United States, European Union or other countries for their data collection practices.
TikTok said it was responding to questions from the Indian ministry and complying with the country’s regulations.
TikTok says the security and privacy of user data is their top priority. Representatives of Alibaba and the Indian Ministry of Technology did not provide any information.
