After releasing Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed, RCB director Mo Bobat said the aim is to land the spinners in the IPL 2024 auction.
After making controversial retention decisions, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) manager Mo Bobat is now planning to add spin power to his arsenal in the IPL 2024 auction. RCB has released Wanindu Hasaranga and Shahbaz Ahmed and now has to find replacements. The only highlight was the Cameron Green trade, but Mumbai Indians’ payment of Rs 17.5 crore for the Australian all-rounder also raised eyebrows.
At the Leaders Meet India event organized by RCB Innovation Lab, Mo Bobat highlighted the need to make wise decisions in the IPL 2024 auction. He hopes his first stint in the franchise will end the drought of 16 years of trophies.
“We have a strong core of shutdown players and we have a very strong top team. Part of the decision-making process in deciding whether to let players go is trying to strengthen the middle order and bringing in Cameron Green is a fantastic move. Mohammad Siraj is a key part of what we do and supporting Siraj with more bowling options, including overseas bowling options, will be a real priority for us. Then we have the local core group which I think is quite strong. Some of them have had opportunities over the past couple of years and could play bigger roles in the future. » said Mo Bobat.
However, what RCB did well was maintain their batting core. Mo Bobat stressed the need to maintain long-term projects.
“I am committed to a long-term project here. We have an exceptional captain in Faf and an exceptional group of senior players with the experience of Virat, Maxi (Maxwell) and DK (Dinesh Karthik). The material is therefore very durable. The next goal is to provide a proper performance and culture where players can really show what they can do and also go out and entertain the crowd. If we commit to our process, play an aggressive style of cricket and have moments where we are willing to be bold, it will encourage fans to take action.
