When Virat Kohli presented a ‘ruthless’ India in his first Test as captain in 2014

Virat Kohli’s first Test match as captain was a close encounter in which India lost to Australia by 48 runs.

Virat Kohli became his first Test captain in 2014 in an emotional atmosphere in Brisbane where India and Australia met after paying tribute to Phillip Hughes. The Brisbane Test has been postponed due to the tragic death of Phillip Hughes. Virat Kohli, known for his ‘ruthless’ approach to Test cricket, gave his all in his first Test match.

However, India failed to win this close contest, being beaten by 48 runs in the first Test of the 2014 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Kohli was in fine form, scoring a double century after taking over as captain, becoming the second batsman after Greg Chappell to score a double century in his first Test as captain.

Vijay was sent off in the 99th minute by Lyon, leaving Kohli to carry the burden of the chase on his shoulders. The captain, undeterred, led India to over 300 runs with great determination.

However Kohli he was caught at the boundary when he was on 141. Kohli’s wicket proved to be the start of India’s downfall as the team succumbed to pressure and lost by 48 runs.
