India-based renewable energy platform AmpIn Energy Transition has committed to invest INR 31 billion (USD 372 million/EUR 341 million) to add more than 600 MW of new renewable energy capacity and a solar cell and module manufacturing facility to be built in East India.
“It’s time for the eastern region, the home of coal, to embrace renewable energy,” CEO Pinaki Bhattacharyya said in a recent statement.
AmpIn, formerly Amp Energy India, is already present in the region with an open access solar portfolio of around 200 MWp and a 10.5 MW industrial solar project behind the meter for an industrial customer. In addition, the company has a 250 MWp wind and solar hybrid project with a power purchase agreement (PPA) with CESC.
A significant portion of the planned investments will focus on the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and the Northeast.
In addition to renewable energy generation capacity, AmpIn plans to build a 1.3 GW solar manufacturing plant in Odisha, the release said.
Headquartered in New Delhi, the company’s total portfolio in the country is around 3 GWp across 17 states. Last month, the company announced that it had partnered with solar products manufacturer Jupiter International to build a 1.3 GW PV cell and module manufacturing facility.
