Maryan Apparel has supplied approximately 100,000 uniforms per year to the Israeli police since 2015.
The Indian company Maryan Apparel, one of the main suppliers of uniforms to the Israeli police, announced that it was terminating its contract due to the attacks in Gaza following the Hamas attack on October 7, citing “moral“.
Maryan Apparel has supplied about 100,000 uniforms a year to the Israeli police since 2015, according to its data. “The suspension was decided after an attack on a hospital in Gaza which caused many people to die,”is a moral decision», its executive director, Thomas Olickal, told AFP.
The contract was not renewed
Israel and Palestine blamed each other for Tuesday’s attack on Ahli Arab hospital, which Hamas said left 471 people dead, and between “100 and 300» according to American intelligence agencies. More than 1,400 people have been killed on Israeli territory by Hamas members, most of them civilians who were shot, burned alive or died from mutilation on the first day of the offensive, according to Israeli authorities, and 203 people were taken hostage.
On the Palestinian side, more than 3,785 people, mostly civilians, were killed in bombings carried out in retaliation by the Israeli army, according to local authorities, who also recorded more than 12,000 injuries. “We will agree to resume our business (with Israel) when peace returns“, said Mr Olickal.
Failing that, his company will honor its current contract, which runs through December, but will not renew it, he said. Maryan Apparel, which employs about 1,500 people, also counts the Philippine army and the Saudi government among its clients.
