Appearing confident helps Alwi hold ticket to BWF WJC 2023 semi-final

Spokane: Alwi Farhan advanced to the semi-finals of the 2023 BWF World Junior Championships. The fourth seed advanced to the final four after defeating Chinese sixth seed Wang Zi Jun 21-19 , 21-18 in 42 minutes.

“I am grateful to have won. In this match, I was full of confidence. Even though I was behind at the start of the first and second matches, I was able to find my playing pattern again. The key is to play more calmly and be more confident,” Alwi said.

In the semi-final, Alwi will meet Ayush Shetty, an unseeded Indian player. In the first meeting of the Denmark 2021 junior semi-finals, Alwi was defeated by Ayush in three games, 21-16, 17-21, 21-23.


“For tomorrow, my opponent and I definitely want to win. I just want to focus on my confidence and my strengths. These will be my strengths and the key to victory in tomorrow’s match. I have to maintain my mindset and think positively,” says Alwi.

In men’s doubles, Muhammad Al Farizi/Nikolaus Joaquin also failed to advance to the semi-finals after being stopped by fourth seed Ma Zhang/Zhu Yi Jun (China), 21-15, 17-21, 14-21.
