World Championships bronze medalist boxer Parveen Hooda secured a medal for India on October 1 and also secured a quota for the Paris Olympics by reaching the 57kg semi-finals. However, Nikhat Zareen was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Asian Games.

At the 2022 World Boxing Championships, Parveen won the bronze medal in the 63 kg heavyweight category. At the 2023 Asian Games, she defeated Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova by unanimous decision in the quarterfinals.

Zareen, who competed in the women’s 50kg category, had to settle for bronze after losing to Rakast Chuthamat of Thailand as he won 2-1 on a split decision in the semifinals. India’s Areen had won the first round, but her rival emerged victorious in the following two rounds.

Earlier, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Jaismine Lamboria was eliminated from the 60kg competition after conceding a second round loss to North Korean boxer Won Ungyong in her quarterfinal bout.

According to the details, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and Narender Berwal (92kg) have already secured Olympic quotas in their respective categories.

India’s Tajinder Pal Singh Toor cleared a distance of 19.83 m in his final throw to secure his Asian Games shot put gold medal. With a best of 20.36 m, it is his second Asian gold in a row.

Avinash Sable also won gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase. This is India’s first athletics gold at the 2023 Asian Games.

Harmilan Bains finishes second in the women’s 1500m and takes the silver medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Ajay Kumar won silver while 2018 gold medalist Jinson Johnson took bronze in the 1500m final. M Sreeshankar won silver in the long jump final.

In the women’s heptathlon, Nandini Agasara wins bronze while Seema Punia won bronze in the women’s discus throw.
