MotoGP News: Joan Mir was surprisingly able to finish fifth in the Indian MotoGP. He admitted that he was happy to see the performance of his bike.
Taking 5th place at the Buddh Circuit, Joan Mir achieved her best result to date for the triumphant Repsol Honda team. The 2020 World Champion was narrowly beaten by Brad Binder (Red Bull-KTM) after a fierce battle in the last third of the race distance.
With Marc Márquez, initially demoted to 4th and moved up to 9th, both Honda riders were back in the top 10 of the race standings after half an eternity.
“To be honest, it’s a pretty ordinary feeling. Of course, I am very happy with the performance of the weekend. We did a good job and understood the bike a little better. We know how to be fast, what we have to do, how to drive and choose the trajectory. But on the other hand, I had problems in the second part of the race,” Mir said
“I had a vibration behind. I was behind Fabio at the time and I checked the tires for the finish. I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish the race because of the vibration. Then the laps of tires disappeared again. It affected our race a bit. I think we could have been close to Jorge and Fabio. We’ll see in Motegi.
“It’s a mystery. Marc is a little stronger than before. But we have taken a very big step. Of course, the Misano test is important, I can do a lot of laps there, we are very fast there with worn tires. I “I can adapt well now and quickly from the start. I did not expect this. I hope to be quick on Friday. But we also qualified very well. In good health.”
