Liputan6.com, Jakarta – A global study from the IBM Institute for Business Value found that executives estimate that 40% of their workforce will need reskilling using AI technology and automation over the next three years. coming years.
This means that around 1.4 billion people – out of a global workforce of 3.4 billion according to the World Bank – will need to be retrained in the near future.
The study, titled Augmented work for an automation, AI-driven world, also shows that there is a gap between business stakeholders and employees when it comes to workplace priorities.
The study shows that as AI is poised to take on more manual and repetitive tasks, surveyed employees revealed that engaging in higher-impact work is the top factor that interests them beyond pay and security – more important than flexible working arrangements, growth opportunities and equality.
However, economic players are not yet aware of this.
Executives surveyed ranked impact work as the least important factor for their staff, and instead highlighted flexible work arrangements as the most important factor outside of pay and security.
Andrian Purnama, Managing Partner of IBM Indonesia, explained that although AI continues to be implemented in almost every business process of a company, human labor remains the main competitive advantage of companies.
“Therefore, it is very important that leaders are able to lead and guide their workforce through this change and enable them to succeed and continue to grow in the new era of generative AI,” said Andrian in a statement quoted on Monday (25/9). /2023).
According to Andrian, closing this gap is very important to ensure that staff focus their energy and time on more creative and impactful work for the business.
“Meanwhile, AI and automation are being used to perform repetitive and more time-consuming tasks,” he said.
