A LOT who would be happy if India changed its name: Bharat. Even Indonesia. We are still fighting with India over the three-letter country code: IND. It should be Indonesia. But it still means India. Indian tribes in America no longer need to be called “American Indians.” A whole Indian tribe. It will not be confused with Bharat.

Efforts to change the name are increasingly evident in India. It’s no longer just about talking. Especially since the right-wing party always wins elections there: the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharat People’s Party. This party is absolutely right. Very Hindu. Including the ongoing struggle for a new constitution. So that the foundation of Indian state is changed to be based on Hinduism.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is also the pioneer in changing the name of the country. India is considered the epitome of “slavery”. Humble. Colonized. They consider that the name India reflects the colonial power: England.

The Bharatiya Janata Party wants the colonial mentality to disappear immediately.

Thus, the name Bharat was officially introduced to the world. While there is great momentum there: to host the G20 summit. Many preliminary forums are held in India. Including group meetings. Also a meeting of ministers from the G20 countries.

In an official invitation to the G20 group meeting, the name Bharat was used instead of the name India. It’s just that there is still a translation underneath: what Bharat means is India.

It looks like it won’t be long before the name Bharat becomes official. At first we will of course stutter when calling it, but after a while we will get used to it. The passage from Burma to Myanmar was more difficult. The word “Bharat” is already familiar in our languages. We usually say the words barata, barata yudha, wayang orang Bharata.
