Badminton News: It didn’t take long for the Chen Tang Jie / Toh Ee Wei couple to make a name for themselves in the mixed doubles category. Although they have only been together for nine months, they have made a big impact on the international scene by climbing to No. 11 in the world rankings of the BWF.
They are now the first mixed doubles pair in Malaysia, overtaking world number 12 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai and world number 23 Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing.
Their popularity can be attributed to their unwavering determination and dedication. Under the guidance of an Indonesian trainer, Nova Widianto, they honed their skills and techniques.
Nova Widianto sees them as having the potential to break into the world top 10, but stresses the importance of cultivating a “winning mindset”.
“They have to stay on track and overcome the challenges step by step,” Nova said.
“Ultimately, I would like to see them win a place at the Paris Olympics.”
The upcoming China Open offers Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei a great platform to showcase their skills. Their first challenge will be against Rohan Kapoor/Reddy Sikki from India.
“After the World Championships, we only had less than a week to prepare for the China Open, we couldn’t do much. I hope they stay focused and keep fighting,” added Widianto.
“For me, acquiring votes for this tournament is a good thing and I’m sure it can produce good results,” Widianto continued.
The next match should be more intense, where they could face the sixth seed of the tournament, Kim Won Ho/Jeong Na Eun from South Korea.
Nonetheless, the Malaysian couple remained fearless. They believe in their ability to compete with the world elite.
While the China Open is undoubtedly an important benchmark for Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, it also provides them with an opportunity to showcase their quality on a global scale. Their excellent performance there could bring them closer to their Olympic dreams.
Combining innate talent, hard training and willpower, Chen Tang Jie / Toh Ee Wei is indeed a rising star in mixed doubles badminton.
