Jakarta: World number one men’s singles Viktor Axelsen has finally collapsed in the quarter-finals of the 2023 badminton world championship.

Appearing in front of the Danish public, the host country champion had to be eliminated painfully by Indian representative, Prannoy HS, in a three-set match 21-13, 15-21, 16-21.

Initially, the host audience was very confident as Viktor also managed to show his dominance.

But from the start of the second set, Axelsen’s quality of play began to be matched by that of Prannoy. Even the Indian representative managed to defeat Axelsen until he won the second set.

The third set which became decisive was also interesting. This time the mental load was on Axelsen’s side. Meanwhile, Prannoy seemed calmer and tried to maintain his pace.

Obviously, this time, Axelsen had to stop faster. After losing to Prannoy, Axelsen said the expectation of having to win in his own country was a pressure for him.

“Of course I was affected by the fact that I felt I had to win. The pressure on myself was of course the most difficult,” Axelsen said.

“Yeah, I don’t know what to say. I’ve lost to more players and of course I have to try to do more,” he continued.
