India, Trinidad and Tobago sign Memorandum of Understanding to work together with India Stack

India and Trinidad and Tobago have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share INDIA STACK – a collection of open APIs and digital public goods aimed at enabling identity, data and payment services at scale, according to the report Ministry of Electronics and IT informed on August 17th.

According to the statement, both sides have agreed to work together in the areas of digital transformation, including through capacity building, training programs, sharing of best practices, exchange of officials and experts, and development of pilot or demo solutions.

This collaboration comes after Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Skills Development and Development, took the initiative. Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT met with Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister for Digital Transformation, Senator Hassel Bacchus, last week.

During the meeting, discussions were held on mutual cooperation in the fields of IT, new technologies and India Stack.

MoS Chandrasekhar stressed the importance of India Stack’s offerings, saying, “With the help of India Stack, these countries can quickly climb the digital ladder and transform their economies and governance.”

“It aims to create a robust ecosystem of startups, developers and system integrators working on next-generation innovations in its environment,” he added.

Since June 2023, India has signed memoranda of understanding with various countries namely Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname as well as Antigua and other countries. Barbuda shares India Stack. A similar MoU was also signed with Papua New Guinea last month, showing growing interest and acceptance of the initiative on a global scale. Several other countries such as Mauritius and Saudi Arabia have shown interest and are in advanced stages of completing the India Stack collaboration. Meanwhile, UPI, which is also part of India Stack, has been accepted in France, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

The MoU was signed in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Electronics and IT, the National e-Governance Department, MeitY, and also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
