Many Twitter users, including Biocon CEO Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, noted the similarities between the performances of the two Premjis. “Strong resemblance!” Shaw wrote.
Two years ago, the Premjis authored The Story of Wipro – a book about the genesis of the IT degree – to celebrate the company’s incredible journey to 75 years in December 2021.
From manufacturing vanaspati (ghee made from hydrogenated palm/vegetable oil) to creating a diversified global company, Wipro’s journey began in 1945 when MH Hasham Premji founded a company in a town in Maharashtra called Western India Plant Products Ltd (now known as as Wipro) registered .
Azim Premji took over the Vanaspati company at the age of 21, ran it for 53 years and transformed the company into a global IT company by capitalizing on the technology boom in 1980.
Rishad Premji took over as chairman of the IT giant after his father stepped down in 2019.
