Men’s doubles coach rates failure at Korea Open 2023

Badminton News: PP PBSI men’s doubles coach, Aryono Minarat attempted to assess the performance of men’s doubles players in the Korea Open World Tour Super 500 tournament which just ended on Sunday (7/23).

Indonesia went home without a title at the Korea Open 2023, after the sole remaining representative pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto failed to prevent Asia champion pair who was also India’s world number 3 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty in a 21-17, 13-21, 21-14 rubber match.

Aryono Minarat said that actually Fajar/Rian had a high chance of winning after winning the first game. But unfortunately, the lack of concentration and haste allowed Satwik/Chirag to press and win consecutive points.

“When the Indian pair found their rhythm, Fajar/Rian were impatient, wanted to rush to earn points, instead they ended up dying on their own,” Aryono said.

However, Aryono added that Fajar/Rian’s game as a whole was back to its best performance, it just needed to improve mentally in crucial moments.

“Then at the Korea Open, I saw from start to final, their game started to get back to their best form, the confidence also came back, they can bring out their abilities,” Aryono said as quoted in the PBSI media team statement.

Besides Fajar/Rian, Merah Putih also sent three other men’s doubles representatives to South Korea, namely Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri who stopped in the last 32, and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan who also failed in the last 16 of the tournament with a total prize pool of USD 420,000 or around 6. 3 billion rupees. h.
