Ministry delegation for Overseas Territories: foreign deputies “surprised” by Philippe Vigier’s appointment
Philippe Vigier… this name of course means nothing to you, but as of this Thursday evening 20 July 2023, he has become the new Minister of Overseas Territories. He replaced Jean-François Carenco. The transfer of power and the handover of the keys to rue Oudinot, where the ministry’s headquarters is located, took place this Friday at 10am (Reunion time). The ceremony will be held ahead of the first cabinet meeting of the third Borneo government. First observation: just appointed, the new Ministerial Delegation has been criticized.
Macron says he has chosen continuity and insists: “becoming a minister is not talking at the post”
Emmanuel Macron spoke for 20 minutes starting at 1pm (Reunion time), directly before the Council of Ministers. He said he expected “efficiency” from members of the government, because “becoming a minister is not about speaking in office but implementing political strategy”. He also said he favored “continuity and efficiency” during the revamp. Unsurprisingly, no concrete announcements have been made.
India has banned the export of non-basmati white rice
India, the world’s biggest rice exporter, has banned exports of non-basmati white rice, “with immediate effect”, announcing a government decision, which could further increase international rice prices.
