Badminton News: Treesa Jolly has been in the limelight in recent weeks after impressing at the world’s oldest badminton championship, the All England World Tour Super 1000. Youth revival has skyrocketed since she joined Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad but Treesa said he had just started his brilliant career.

“My game has improved over the past year. But ever since I started playing badminton under the guidance of my dad, we have dreamed of being the best in the sport. That remains the goal. And achieving the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris would be a big step towards achieving that goal,” the Kerala-born 18-year-old said.

Since arriving in Hyderabad in 2020, Treesa Jolly has teamed up with Gayathri Gopichand, daughter of former All England champion Pullela Gopichand, with whom she overcame obstacles and a much more experienced opponent to reach the semi-finals at the Birmingham Arena in England.

“Training under Pak Gopi has helped a lot. He is happy with our progress and pleased with our result at All England,” Treesa said.

Badminton did not come naturally to Treesa who hails from a small village called Pulingome near the Kerala-Karnataka border in Kannur district. The sport of racquet is unpopular in the hilly terrain and there is not a single badminton court in sight. But her father Jolly Mathew Thaickal, who piqued her interest in badminton in Treesa and her older sister Maria continue to support them to develop.
