Peace, not war, must be the main concern of the EU

Military calculations outweigh diplomatic peace efforts in Ukraine. Will the Ukrainian war be disastrous for the European Union? An analysis.

The madness of war again reigned in Europe. The misconception that only weapons can provide security is resurfacing among European politicians, European think tanks and the media. Worse, the Ukrainian counterattack that has just begun now should result in a military decision that we cannot – or do not want – to achieve politically. As if we have learned nothing from the past, human sacrifices are once again offered in Europe on the altars of supposedly decisive battles. With that, we Europeans surrender the future of Ukraine and Europe, perhaps even the world, to the uncertainty, poisoning, and brutality of the battlefield. It remains unclear which “decisions” can be made with the ongoing intensification of the war. It will definitely not bring peace in Europe.
