Balen Shah has previously raised questions about the depiction of Sita in the Adipurush. Balen Shah disputed the fact that Sita was referred to as the “daughter of India” when in fact she was the “daughter of Nepal”. The creators of Adipurush also reportedly made changes to the film to address complaints from Nepalese politicians.

“If the film is allowed to be broadcast in other areas and abroad by banning the showing of anti-national films in the Kathmandu metropolitan area, then from tomorrow it will be banned from showing Indian films in the Kathmandu metropolitan area until objectionable parts are removed from the film.” ‘ Balen Shah said in a Facebook post.

This is not the only problem Adipurush faces as audiences in India criticize the film for its poor visual effects, offensive dialogue and subpar performances by the actors. The issue is also gaining political traction as Congress and other opposition parties target the BJP and other right-wing groups for their silence on the film.

Meanwhile, the film is doing good business and is expected to earn more than ₹100 crore in India on the first weekend itself. The film more than earned worldwide ₹200 crores. However, observers have pointed out that the collections can hardly be described as “organic” given that the film has had a record number of pre-orders and some schools are also showing the film to students.
