Back to participate in international events in Mandalika, ITS Optimistic to win 1st place

Surabaya – Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Team Sapuangin returned to participate in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2023 International Event at Mandalika Circuit on July 4, 2023. This is the second time that ITS Team Sapuangin participates in this event. Previously, ITS Sapuangin won 3rd place.

The ITS Sapuangin team is a team of student cars whose mission is to make a car with as little fuel as possible. Since its establishment in 2009, it has launched 11 energy-efficient cars and 8 Formula Student cars.

ITS Sapuangin Team General Manager Bayu Irfan Syahputra said his team still has 2-3 weeks to leave for Mandalika Circuit. The preparations are already at 90-95% and all that remains is to optimize the auto parts before the start of week H-1.

“Preparation is more about repairing parts, practicing frequently, running, there are parts that need to be replaced, repaired, aged, enlarged again. Last year’s body had a lot of shortcomings, difficult to close, this year the semester student can handle the problem,” said the semester 8 student, ITS mechanical engineering major, met by detikJatim at the rectorate building, Friday (6/16/2023)

Because they were using an old car, the Sapuangin team made an upgrade. His team did the mapping, so the fuel and air could burn perfectly and efficiently.

“This race has a speed limit of 60 km/h. But it can be higher. From this race what you are looking for is fuel economy, not speed. It is economical 450 at 500 km/litre. Regularly use Sell V Power gasoline. In Mandalika there are 3 laps in total, in total 3,400 meters,” he explained.

ITS itself is aiming to bring home 1st place in Mandalika. Then continuation of the international competition in India. There are also about 20 to 30 people who will leave, as well as mechanics.

“The goal is to win, because there is still time, we want to reach more than 600 km/litre, we can continue to India. After the Mandalika contest, we will continue internationally in India. If God wants, we can all win 1st place. Yesterday we won 3rd place,” he hoped.

According to him, the current rival is Yogyakarta State University (UNY). Because last year, UNY was able to reach 541 km/litre, while ITS was at 270 km/litre, due to problems with the car.

While Sapuangin Team driver who was driving the car for the event, Nurul Ilmi Rojabia H said he prepared himself before competing at the Mandalika circuit. Because this event was Ilmi’s first time driving a small car.

“For competitions, I often train to use this car. It’s been 4 months of regulations, there are questions about the time I spent in the car, the flight hours are high. I often drive a car. It’s just an adaptation. For this new competition, “said the electrical engineering student in the 4th semester.

Because for the first time, Ilmi prepared to adapt to this car. Because the size of the car is small and the steering wheel is not round like a general car.

“The preparation, the slaughter, I feel the car. In my opinion, one way or another, it can solve the problem. The difficulty in cornering is harder, wider,” he said. concluded.

Previously, during its 12-year journey, the Sapuangin team has won trophies and awards, both nationally and internationally. One of his achievements was when he became the world champion of the 2018 Drivers’ World Championship in London.
