Aaron/Wooi Yik Failure in the semi-finals of the Singapore Open 2023

Badminton News: Male duo Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik’s strong performance in the Singapore Open World Tour Super 750 tournament ended with a 21-16, 15-21, 17-21 loss to Chinese duo Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang in the semi-finals which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday evening (6/6) local time.

Aaron/Wooi Yik started the game well taking a 7-0 lead and finishing the first game but couldn’t continue their good form afterwards.

The young Chinese pair who won the Thailand Open last week refused to give up and came back strong to win the next two matches and claim a ticket to the 2023 Singapore Open final.

This was World No. 2 Aaron/Wooi Yik’s fourth loss to World No. 3 Weikeng/Wang Chang in their last five encounters. The first was also touched by the second during the final of the India World Tour Super 750 last January in New Delhi.

Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang will then attempt to win their second title in two weeks against former world champions Japan, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, who in the other semi-final got rid of South Korean men’s doubles, Kim Won. Ho / Choi Sol Gyu with fairly easy 23-21 and 21-14

Meanwhile, world number 21 mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei were also eliminated from the Singapore Open tournament after narrowly losing 17-21 and 22-24 to number 3 pair Japanese World Yuta Watanabe / Arisa Higashino.
