Thailand Open 2023: Carolina Marin is unstoppable

Badminton News: Spain’s badminton queen, Carolina Marin did not face any significant difficulties during the round 32 round of the Thailand Open World Tour Super 500 tournament which was held at Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.

Defending European champion Carolina Marin returned after a short hiatus from the international stage and took on young Thai talent Pitchamon Opatniputh to claim an easy 21-17 21-13 win.

After winning in this match, Marin is now ready to face India’s Ashmita Chaliha and a win against her will mean there will be a tough encounter against China’s Wang Zhi Yi or India’s Pusarla Venkata Sindhu in the quarter-finals of Thailand Open 2023.

In doubles, Danish pair Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje secured a thrilling three-game win over eighth-seeded Thai duo Supak Jomkoh/Supissara Paewsampran 23-25, 21-11, 21-6.

Another notable performance came from Dutch sixth-seeded duo Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek, who quickly qualified for the next round by beating Canadians Ty Alexander Lindeman and Josephine Wu, 25-23 21-11.

Next, Tabeling and Piek will face Denmark’s Mathias Thyrri and Amalie Magelund, who sealed a big first-round win over England’s Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-8 21-19.

Meanwhile, promising Danish star Magnus Johannesen continued to impress with a stunning victory in the first round of the prestigious Super 500 tournament, after beating India’s Sameer Verma 21-15 21-15, Johanessen showed his skills during his second high-caliber tournament just he recently reached.

Another European men’s singles victory went to Frenchman Christo Popov, who won a convincing win over fellow Indian player Sai Praneeth B quite easily 21-14 21-16.
