Badminton News: Good luck with HS Prannoy in the semi-finals on Saturday, and now he hopes to become the first Indian badminton player to win the Malaysia Masters 2023 men’s singles crown.
The world number 9 player will face Weng Hong Yang of China in the Malaysia Masters 2023 final on Sunday (28/5).
The 30-year-old fought hard against rising star Christian Adinata but disaster befell the Indonesian at a crucial moment in the opener.
While Prannoy led 18-17 in the semi-finals, Christian Adinata suffered a hamstring injury and was forced to retire from the match.
However, Prannoy was in no mood to party. He hopes his 22-year-old rival recovers soon.
“It’s not how I want the semi-finals to end. I had a lot of injuries and I know it’s hard for Christian,” Prannoy said.
“To be honest, I’m sad because I know how much it hurts to be injured. I hope he comes back stronger soon.”
“I’m not thinking about the final. However, maybe I’ll be a fresher player on the pitch tomorrow,” Prannoy added at Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.
Christian Adinata managed to surprise at the Malaysian Masters tournament this week, where he rose from the qualifying round and beat the top seeds en route to the semi-finals, namely former world number 1 Kidambi Srikanth in the last eight.
HS Prannoy was part of the winning team of last year’s Thomas Cup India held in Bangkok Thailand.
