Moscow claims Bakhmout “liberation”, Ukraine says still fighting – rts.ch

In eastern Ukraine, the battle of Bakhmout appears to be approaching its epilogue. After nearly a year of fighting, the Russian troops, consisting mostly of soldiers from Wagner’s group, were said to be on the verge of taking the city.

The boss of the mercenary training, Evguneni Prigojine, has already claimed victory, while we convinced the Kiev side to continue to “control certain areas”, while creating a “critical” situation.

Guest at 7:30 pm Saturday, Jean-Marc Rickli, global director of risk and resilience at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), believes that if confirmed, this victory will only be “symbolic”.

“Bakhmout was a pre-war city of 70,000 people, of no such strategic value. If Russia continues in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, there we can speak of an operational victory”, he explained.
