Praveen Sood has been promoted as Chief of India’s Central Bureau of Investigations for a two-year term. This unit is responsible for criminal investigations, national security, and intelligence.
It is one of the highest positions in the Indian police hierarchy. If this appointment piqued Maurice’s interest, it was because Praveen Sood was an old acquaintance, as he knew the country very well having served there.
Praveen Sood served as “Police Advisor” in the government of Mauritius for three years. This senior Indian police official was stationed in Mauritius on the advice of the then Indian government. He would serve in Mauritius until 2003 when he decided to take a sabbatical to continue his studies in “Public Policy and Management” at the Indian Institute of Management.
Highly regarded throughout the regime of his country, he was appointed as Mysore Police Commissioner from 2004 to 2007. He later held many other positions, including Police Commissioner of Bengaluru. Prior to his appointment, he was Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka State.
The appointment was endorsed last Saturday during a meeting of the High Powers Committee consisting of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India and opposition Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
