2 Indian fighter jets collide in midair during training, 1 pilot dies

A pilot died after two fighter military India collided in the air during training on Saturday (28/1). Two other pilots were reportedly injured.

The crash happened while the two planes were carrying out routine exercises involving a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet piloted by two pilots and a French-made Mirage 2000 jet with one pilot.

According to eyewitness reports, the two jets collided around 10:00 a.m. local time.

“The aircraft was on a routine operational flight training mission,” the Indian Air Force said. AFP.

Based on reports IndiaToday, the deceased victim was a Mirage jet pilot, who had already suffered serious injuries after the accident. Two Sukhoi pilots were reportedly slightly injured.

Both planes took off from Gwalior Airbase.

The first jet plane crashed in the jungles of Pahadgarh in the central state of Madhya Pradesh. While the second jet crashed some distance away in the state of Rajasthan.

“Two pilots were found near the crash site, who were evacuated by IAF helicopter for immediate assistance,” said Morena District Police Inspector Ashutosh Bagri.

This crash is the latest in a series of military aircraft crashes in India.

In recent months, India has indeed experienced a series of military aviation accidents.

In October, for example, five soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash in Arunachal Pradesh state.

The incident was the second military helicopter crash in the state that month. The accident happened just weeks after the Cheetah helicopter crashed near the town of Tawang, killing the pilot.
