It comes after New Delhi launched an offensive against militant groups in Pakistani territory following attacks on Indian forces in Kashmir.
Pakistan later said it shot down two Indian military jets and captured a fighter pilot.
India and Pakistan claim all of Kashmir, but only control part of it.
India has long accused Pakistan of supporting separatist militant groups in the Kashmir Valley, a charge Islamabad denies.
The two nuclear-armed nations have fought three wars since gaining independence from Britain and separating in 1947.
In the book “Never Give An Inch: Fighting for the America I LovePompeo said he didn’t think the world really knew how close the India-Pakistan rivalry had grown, which escalated into a nuclear fire in February 2019.
“Actually, I don’t know the exact answer either; I just know the answer is too close,” he wrote, quoted BBCThursday (26/1/2023).
