From 20 to 22 September 2022, the IFTM event in Paris brought together thousands of tourism professionals around the world. In this event, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, spoke about the importance of sustainable tourism.
Madhya Pradesh is often referred to as the heart of India. Situated right in the center of the country, this area is a synthesis of all that India has to offer thanks to its immense diversity. The IFTM Top Resa show, which takes place in Paris at the end of September, is an ideal opportunity for travel lovers to explore the region.
Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Director General of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, explained his approach to sustainable tourism at the fair.
“After the crisis, the whole world has seen a shift in the approach to tourism. And all these savvy travelers want to have a different experience: something unique, new, that has never been explored before.”
With three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Madhya Pradesh region is keen to preserve its incredible rich history: “UNESCO is supporting us very actively and three of our sites are already World Heritage sites,” explains Sheo Shekhar Shukla .
“Sanchi is a very famous Buddhist spiritual destination, Bhimbetka is a prehistoric stone shelter still preserved, and Khajuraho is home to ancient temples with magnificent architecture.”
In short, Shukla believes that there is only one way forward for this sector: “Travellers should look at sustainable tourism as a paradigm to take tourism to the next level”.
