Shankart Mishra, the banking giant’s vice president for operations in India, was arrested in January.
The 34-year-old man is accused of urinating, while drunk, on a 72-year-old woman who was installed in business class during a flight on Nov. 26 between New York and New Delhi.
The incident was dubbed “pipigate” by local media.
A court in the Indian capital has ordered Mishra to be released on bail of 100,000 rupees ($1,200), contrary to a lower court ruling which called the act “absolutely abhorrent and abhorrent”.
Mr Mishra denied the charges against him and his lawyers told the court that the woman, an Indian classical dancer, had actually urinated on herself.
Respondent was banned from flying with Air India for four months and was immediately fired by Wells Fargo when the allegations against him became public.
Indian company Air India was fined 37,000 dollars (about 34,000 euros) for managing this incident.
India’s civil aviation regulator also imposed a fine of 300,000 rupees (about 3,400 euros) on Air India’s director of in-flight services.
Meanwhile the aviation pilot saw his license suspended for three months for “failing in his duties” to ensure safety and discipline on board.
