Six Indian foreigners stranded in Rote assigned to detention centers – ANTARA News Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara – ANTARA News East Nusa Tenggara

Kupang (ANTARA) – Up to six foreign nationals (WNA) from India have been detained at Kupang (Rudenim) Immigrant Detention Center pending a deportation order or trial.

“Currently, they are still being held in Rudenim after being picked up from Rote Ndao Regency,” said Kupang Immigration Office Immigration Information and Communication Technology Section Chief Fitra. Izharry, in Kupang, Monday (30/1/2023).

It was passed on in relation to the case of six foreigners stranded from India in early January as they attempted to cross to Australia using a wooden boat.

The six foreigners from India included Gurjot Singh, Satnam Singh, Karamjit Singh, Aman Singh, Satinder Pal Singh and Harshadkumar Natvarlal.

The six foreigners from India are adults and all are male.

Fitra said the six Indian foreigners were vetted by the intelligence and intelligence section and a case was opened.

“Till today, we are still awaiting the decision from the leadership whether the six Indian citizens will be deported or through legal means,” he added.

According to Fitra, a number of Indian foreigners have been temporarily charged under the Immigration Act and made subject to Section 75(1) of Act No. 6 of 2011.

Previously, on January 19, six Indian foreigners were found stranded in the waters of South Rote District, Rote Ndao Regency, the southern district of the Republic of Indonesia.

Based on the confessions of a number of Indian foreigners, they boarded a ship from Sulawesi and are suspected of having links with smugglers along with four crew members (ABK) from Sulawesi.

They set out from Sulawesi and arrived in Pulau Pasir, where they were stopped by Australian Water Safety officers. They were detained for four days by local security agents.

After four days, the six foreigners were then returned to Indonesian territory and finally stranded in Rote Ndao.
